We believe in transparency, and want everything about this process to be open and informative for all! We hope to answer questions you may have below. If there's anything we missed, feel free to contact us, and we'd love to fill you in!
Q: Is there a real need for this school?

A: YES!!! Though literacy and education rates have improved in Uganda in recent years, there is still a very real need to help provide children an education. Specifically, for poorer families that cannot afford to send their children. While many children in the cities do attend, there are still many children who live in more remote areas that do not have access. There are also families who can only afford to send their children to the cheapest schools, where often the students are not receiving a quality education - there are huge class sizes, unqualified teachers (in Uganda a student who just graduated high school is allowed to teach! No college degree is necessary!) Students at those kinds of schools also suffer from harsh conditions - inadequate facilities, lack of textbooks/study materials, overcrowding, poor quality/not enough food, unsanitary conditions, etc.

Q: Where will you find the students that will attend C.R.E.A.T.E?

A: Great question.  Our team spent a great deal of time looking for land in a location that would best serve people in dire need.  The area where we purchased land currently has no secondary schools. The families in this area have no option to send their children to school after grade 6. And so our school will fulfill a critical need.  In the future, as we hope to expand and become a boarding school, we would then venture into other remote areas throughout the country and expand our reach to help even more children beyond our rural area.  As we cannot help every single child, we will create a database of out of school children, and if we cannot welcome them the current year, we hope to be able to the next!

Q: Who will oversee the school?

A: Our Founder, Jennifer Kirabo has already committed her life to this project, as it is something she believes in and is tremendously passionate about.  She will live in Uganda and oversee the school as President and Director, and ensure it functions and runs to expectations, as well as teach filmmaking, photography and dance classes herself.  We will also hire a qualified Ugandan Headmaster to oversee the curriculum and educational aspects of the school.

Q. Where will you find the staff? Can I come and volunteer?

A: The staff of Create Academy will be a team, therefore, only qualified individuals who are passionate about educating and empowering youth will join our community.  All staff will be heavily vetted, to ensure the well-being and safety of the children in our care. A vital aspect of C.R.E.A.T.E ACADEMY is not only empowering our future students, but the local communities as well!  As such, Create Academy is committed to filling 100% of our job openings by locals, providing dozens of job opportunities for Ugandans to earn a fare wage, in a happy, team-oriented environment, where they will be appreciated and respected.  We will employ qualified Ugandans as teachers, cooks, administrative staff, security guards, groundskeepers, gardeners, building maintenance, sports coaches, etc.

We will also be welcoming volunteers from around the globe who wish to give back and join our team as volunteer teachers and staff.  If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media for volunteer opportunities.

Q. Is C.R.E.A.T.E. a non-profit? What about donations?

Yes. C.R.E.A.T.E. is a government classified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible. This school will be run as a non-profit. No child will ever be charged a tuition fee.  Money raised will pay for the land to be purchased, the school to be constructed, as well as furniture, supplies, electricity, water pumps, plumbing, security, staff, etc.  For a detailed budget, please contact us.  And as we will need to pay for food, staff, upkeep of facilities, electricity, etc., the school will be run off donations/sponsors.  Once the school is in session, we will also offer the opportunity for donors to sponsor individual students to cover them each term (what it costs to educate, house and fee them each term). Sponsors will receive photos, updates and have the opportunity to connect with the child they are sponsoring.
